Join our knowledgeable guide on a walk through this lush tropical forest as you learn about the island’s unique ecosystems, the fascinating flora, and the wildlife that call it home. Along the way, you’ll encounter the playful red colobus monkeys up close—an unforgettable experience!

Your journey continues into the magical mangrove forest, where you’ll explore elevated boardwalks that wind through this vital coastal ecosystem. It’s a peaceful and scenic end to an enriching tour filled with nature, conservation, and local insight.

Butterfly & Chameleon center

Meet a lot of different beautiful butterflies in this tropical garden. Learn everything about them and see how they are born and growing until they become a big beautiful butterfly. If you wish, you will be able to let the butterfly fly close to your hand were you will be able to hold it. You will also see and hold the unique chameleons.

The Centre focuses on three areas: educational visits, conservation and butterfly farming. The butterfly farming is done in cooperation with around 40 farmers from the nearby village. The farming allows the farmers to diversify their income and is especially suitable for women as they can easily integrate the activities around household and childcare duties. Before, many of them have been clearing the forest for charcoal and agriculture causing habitat destruction and species extinction. Nowadays, they see the importance and incentive of conserving such habitats as the butterflies bred and rear only in intact forests.

Spice farm

Step into the heart of Zanzibar’s spice plantations and awaken your senses on this immersive journey through nature’s pantry. You’ll explore lush tropical gardens where world-renowned spices like cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, nutmeg, and more are grown. All fresh, organic, and bursting with natural flavor.

Our knowledgeable local guides will lead you through the farm, where you can see, touch, and smell each spice in its natural form. Learn how they’re cultivated, harvested, and traditionally used in Zanzibari cuisine, medicine, and culture.

🍃 What to Expect:

  • Hands-on exploration of spice trees and plants

  • Tasting of freshly picked spices and seasonal fruits

  • Fascinating insights into Zanzibar’s spice trade history

Using fresh, island-grown ingredients, you’ll learn to prepare traditional dishes just as they’ve been made for generations. Discover local cooking techniques, hear stories behind the recipes, and enjoy the warmth of shared culture.

At the end of the class, sit down together and savor the meal you’ve helped create.
